Have you ever made one of those blunders that damages your team’s motivation? A friend told me about a land mine his employer recently stepped on. The company placed an ad on a popular job search website for an opening in a different department with a description almost identical to that of the jobs in my friend’s department. It probably wouldn’t have been a problem, except that the posting specifically named a starting salary $3 per hour more than the starting salary in my friend’s department. A buddy outside the company spotted it and sent it to my friend, who merely shrugged and said, “Well, I’m sure they have their reasons.”
