Heather’s Corner – Finding and Interpreting Your Results

Heathers_CornerTip Five:
As we get ready for Thanksgiving, let’s look at our results and decide if the team has done well enough to deserve a holiday treat. First, if you do not know how to view your results, or if you have not been given a tour showing you how to retrieve your information, please go to the support videos section and click on the portal overview video.

Now, to refresh those who have had the tour: please go to http://portal.9gs.org/org
Enter your user ID and Password and continue to your personal dashboard. Once you’re logged in you will see gauges that reflect your national percentile ranking in each of the key group areas. The total number of surveys completed over the entire organization is listed above the gauges. Principals, and the number of surveys completed for each principal, are located on the top left in the yellow sticky note. At the very top you can select the Dashboard, Reports, Principals, Best Practices or log out. When you select the Reports tab, you will be directed to the survey criteria page where you can choose criteria for creating more detailed reports. Select the survey you would like to view under the first blue bar, the organizational component that you would like to view under the second blue bar, and the baseline to which you would like to compare your choices under the third blue bar. Once you have clicked the “Submit” button at the bottom you will be taken to the survey data page, where you can view your overall Mean, Standard Deviation, Median (middle answer) and Mode (most common answer) graphs along with an individual graph for each of the questions asked and the comments from the surveys. At the top right of this page you’ll see two gray rectangular boxes. Click on the “Save Report as PDF” box and you’ll see a list of printing options, allowing you to create electronic reports. These options allow you to either email the reports or print from the PDF. Click on the “View Detailed Report” box and you’ll be taken to the most detailed level of feedback. The report is generated based upon the survey criteria you already entered, and it shows the means and standard deviations on a question by question basis. You’ll also be able to see all the text box answers. At the top of this page are, again, two rectangular boxes; one (“View Summary Report”) returns you to the general survey results page, and the other brings up the PDF print options. Just as on the summary report page, clicking the Print PDF button at the top right of the page will bring up a PDF report selection page where you can tailor what goes into your printable reports. It’s very handy because you can print the PDF to your desktop and then simply E-mail it to your team/doctors/board or any intended recipient and avoid the hassles of wasting paper and waiting on delivery. If you have questions about understanding the numbers, go back to your dashboard. Underneath the support section, on the left of the page, the “Understanding the Numbers” button brings up a detailed explanation of the terms used and the significance of each one.As you can see, the portal solution is very easy to navigate, and at the same time, it provides incredibly useful results. This is where you will find the science you need to see continuous improvement in your organization. Process enhancement using valid data will lead to incredible success and better patient and employee satisfaction.
