Evolution – Chapter One

Feature

So, how’s your personal situation? Is it worse than what my mother went through? Do you complain about insignificant things? If you do, perhaps you should consider getting over them! Many, many people have it worse than you do! You, and I, have no right complaining about how the economy is down, how much we’ve lost in the stock market, or how we’re put out doing things for those around us, at work or at home.

I recently read about a man who committed suicide because he’d lost money in the stock market. What a sad story and a tragic waste! Because he lost perspective, I’m certain he caused a lot of pain for a great many people. All that because of money!!! During thousands of coaching sessions and throughout all of my travels I’ve met many very happy people who make a living just at, or even below, the poverty line. There are a lot of folks who are very satisfied with their lives, their situations, and their families and friends, and they add real value and bring positive energy to the people around them. Do you radiate positive feelings, or do you focus on those negative things you can’t change? I read an article a couple of years ago in which the authors said their study showed that only 15% of the things we worry about actually occur. The choice is yours: focus on the negative, live a shorter life, and have less fun; or assume the best, understand you’ll get knocked down but always get back up, and create a positive atmosphere for your family, friends, and co-workers.

Eulogy
So, how’s your perspective? Have you taken the time to reflect upon and prioritize the things that are most important in your life? When it is eulogy time, what would you like said about you, your contribution, your purpose?

What are your priorities? Here are the ones I’ve seen named the most often in informal polls during my workshops and more formal, national, polls:

  1. Family
  2. Spirituality
  3. Health
