As the days get longer and the weather keeps getting better the time to enjoy it shrinks. Remember to go outside and enjoy life during these times, balance as always is a key factor in everything we do. Try to change things up, like have lunch outside, go on a bike ride to McBurger instead of driving, or just open the blinds. Warm weather may lead to summer attitudes, but don't let it impact your effectiveness negatively, whether it's continued or a refresher 9gs is in development of your next leadership resource. Stay tuned for the next three monthly installments of the newsletter for some of our best kept secrets, balance techniques, and do it yourself online leadership programs.

New this month, 9gs is proud to offer audio versions of each of the articles seen below. As we know many of you have very busy schedules, we do too, so now you can listen while you work. Simply follow the links below the article or click the picture similar to the one seen here. Have a great day!

By keeping both physically fit and mentally tuned up, we give ourselves the tools in our toolbox to meet the demands we face in our everyday lives. But what about our emotional state? What have you done to equip yourself emotionally?

Many times, we become emotionally unbalanced because we are subject to events beyond our control. These events lead to stress, anxiety, and other feelings that affect us. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes not so good. But the key to maintaining our emotional balance, and hence our ability to cope with unbalancing events, is to....

The national media continues to highlight the failings of Enron, HealthSouth and WorldCom. The accusations are not that they are lacking ethics, but that they are criminals. So, your question is, “We don’t have criminals on our team, so why do we need to talk about ethics?”

Many around the world have researched ethics, and the common denominator is different people use different words to describe ethics. However, the concepts almost always boil down to a group of 5 or 6 values...

All too often we see the syndrome of the leader who has reached a plateau. What have you done for yourself lately? How can you continue to expect higher performance from your employees when you have done nothing to elevate yourself? How do you expect to deliver better results in the face of a changing environment when you continue to do the same old thing? Just because you are busy doesn’t mean you are making a positive impact.

It seems that the more we study history’s notable leaders looking for some common thread, the more different they all become, with one exception – they all were great communicators. They all had the ability to take a vision and communicate it in a way that elicited buy in and inspiration from the people they led. In their case, the ability to communicate equaled power.

We can all speak, and we can all hear, but most of us have to learn to listen.
My previous articles spoke about Coaching and Mentoring and how both differ from the concept of Training. Despite stereotypes, Coaching is not just for those whose performance is lacking, it is for anyone who wants to improve...in any area. It is a leadership tool underutilized considering the fantastic return on investment (ROI) it provides.

One of the most important things to bear in mind when coaching is that it is a process and not a single event.
In a time when corporate scandal is prevalent throughout American society and employee dissatisfaction is at an all time high, a look at good and basic yet underutilized leadership principles is a refresher all leaders can use.

Today's workplace demands productive communication and positive relationships. It is necessary for organizations to use tools that teach individuals about their own style and how to apply it in various settings. This learning can then directly be applied to team relationships.
When many Americans hear the word “conflict”, they often experience negative thoughts and therefore seek to avoid it. “Let’s just get along so we can get the job done” is common reasoning for avoiding conflict. The problem with avoiding conflict is that the basic issues creating the conflict don’t just go away, they merely remain unresolved.

The irony is that rather than being more productive and “getting the job done”, teams that avoid conflict in order to create false harmony often resort to one-upsmanship and back-biting...
The idea of the role model is well ingrained in America: the selfless football coach; the teacher who spends her own money on supplies the school budget won't cover; and the gruff drill sergeant who prepares troops for the terror of combat and brings them thorough unscathed. Leadership training starts with ideas and techniques to develop the qualities of role modes in each of us: decisiveness, integrity, perseverance and courage.
For continued development of America's leaders we are proud to announce a project with which we have dedicated a lot of our efforts as of late. In conjunction with our current offerings we will soon offer it all to you online. Do it yourself workplace assessments and follow through, surveys tailored directly to you and your organization run by you, and online leadership training to be done at home or coordinated with your organization. The following link is meant to be a short teaser of what our online interactive programs will look like.
